Why do we Dream?

We all have had dreams. Dreams are fully or partly different from reality. But do you know "Why do we dream?". Well, in this particular article we will have a look on the science behind dreams. If you haven't login into this website you can login very easily from menu. Let us now begin.

What are Dreams?

Basically, dreams are just stories and images that our brain creates while we are sleeping. Dreams can make us feel happy, sad and sometimes scared.
Dreams can happen any time but they are most likely to appear during a certain period called REM sleep or Rapid Eye Moment sleep.

Lucid Dreams

Lucid dreaming is nothing different in any sense from dreaming except a fact that in lucid dreaming we know that we are dreaming. Scientist believe that lucid dreamer can create their dreams but they insist on a fact that we must leave dreams flow naturally.

Why do we Dream?

There are many theories about why we dream, but no one knows for sure. Some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning. Others say we need dreams for our mental, emotional, and physical health.
In one study, researchers woke people just as they were going into REM sleep. They found that those who weren’t allowed to dream had:
  • More tension
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • A hard time concentrating
  • Lack of coordination
  • Weight gain
  • A tendency to hallucinate
Many experts say dreams exist to:
  • Help solve problems in our lives
  • Incorporate memories
  • Process emotions

Can Dreams predict Future?

I will reply a big No. Because dreams are due to our prior experiences which our brain recalls during REM sleep. Brain creates alternate possibilities regarding a particular event and create dreams. Well, if any how your dreams come true that may be due to following reasons:
  • Coincidence
  • Bad memory
  • An unconscious linking of known information
But sometimes, dreams can motivate you to act a certain way, thus changing the future.

The End Notes

Dreams have fascinated humanity since the beginning of time and will probably continue to puzzle us. Science has allowed us to learn much about the human brain, but we may never know for sure the meanings behind our dreams. Well, that's all for today. I'll be back with more articles very soon. Till then have a good one.
